Fall Updates

Day sailing occurs every Sunday at 1:00pm.

Our first meeting of the semester turned out to be a tremendous success! We filled the room in Journalism with 30+ people.

Don't miss out on our next day sailing event on Sunday Oct 4th, from 1:00 pm to 6:00pm.

General Information

The Sailing Club at UGA is for anyone who has an interest in the sport of sailing.  NO PRIOR EXPERIENCE IS NECESSARY!  There are two divisions of the Club: racing and daysailing.  Club members who have some experience sailing are encouraged to inquire about participating in Racing Team functions, including team practices and competitive regattas at universities throughout the southeast.  ALL Club members may sign up to attend daysailing outings that will be held periodically throughout the spring and fall semesters at locations including Augusta Sailing Club, Fort Yargo State Park in Winder, and our new home at Sandy Creek Park in Athens.  Lastly, for more information (and awesome pictures that will give you a better idea of what exactly we do all year) join our Facebook group: “UGA Sailing Club”.

Boats

In the spring of ’07 we purchased two JY-15s in excellent condition (largely thanks to Will Paschal and Augusta Sailing Club).  In total our resources include two JY-15s, and one Laser.  If anyone is interested in storing a boat at Sandy Creek to have accessible for leisure sailing or practices, please contact Morgan.

Club Dues

Membership dues are $20 per semester.  Members are entitled to attend all daysailing outings and are able to participate in all other Sailing Club events, including social functions and instructional clinics.  In addition, Racing Team members may be required to pay an additional $10 regatta fee per regatta according to the cost of gas, accommodations, etc.

How do I hear about events?  Join the listserv!

To join the Sailing Club listserv and receive information about upcoming daysailing outings, social events, and clinics, go to www.listserv.uga.edu, click “Browse, Subscribe, Post, Search” and search for “sailuga” in the “List Name” box.  Then select “Join or leave the list”.  Those with some previous sailing experience who wish to receive information about Racing Team practices and regattas may join the Racing Team listserv by searching for the “sailingraceteam” list.

Fall Events

We are currently hosting daysailing events just about every weekend this fall.  Notice of all events will be sent over the Club listserv.  Members wishing to participate must pay their $20 semester dues to sail.  That amount then guarantees you unlimited attendance at daysailing events for at least the fall semester, and maybe some of the spring as well.  Questions can be directed to Morgan.
